Job Description
Carbon & Energy Governance
Ensure full understanding and implementation of SEAM standards related to energy and carbon, particularly for reporting, data requirements, and quality assurance.
Support the development and continuous update of the NZE Toolkit with validated energy consumption data (per fuel type), carbon calculations, benchmarking outputs, and investment screening outcomes.
Ensure both operational and embodied carbon calculations are conducted for all applicable projects throughout the project lifecycle.
Project Sustainability Integration
Collaborate with the Central Sustainability Lead and project teams to provide inputs into Project Charters, Investment Screening, and Carbon Calculations.
Review and validate that Project Charters include correct CO₂ and EUI (Energy Use Intensity) targets, as well as appropriate building certification pathways (e.g., LEED, BREEAM).
Engage with Portfolio Managers to confirm alignment on sustainability targets and delivery pathways.
Carbon Performance & Benchmarking
Conduct carbon forecasting and savings analysis for projects to assess the reduction potential in both energy use and carbon emissions (operational and embodied).
Benchmark asset performance against science-based targets using tools such as the CRREM (Carbon Risk Real Estate Monitor), and assess alignment with Paris Agreement objectives.
Support investment screening processes to evaluate the carbon vs cost trade-offs for planned sustainability interventions.
Knowledge Management & Continuous Improvement
Ensure all projects undergo Lessons Learned reviews, with a dedicated section addressing sustainability targets, achievements, and improvement areas.
Share key insights and findings with the Central OE (Operational Excellence) Team and the Sustainability Centre of Expertise (CfE) to contribute to targeted learning programs and best practice sharing.
Risk and Compliance
Ensure adherence to SEAM standards in relation to risk management, sustainability target setting, and environmental reporting (including carbon, waste, water, circularity, and biodiversity).
Gather and validate all required sustainability data during key delivery stages to inform accurate and up-to-date operational/embodied carbon assessments.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Sustainability, Engineering, Environmental Science, or related discipline
Minimum 6 years of working experience with at least 2 years of solid experience in sustainability project management, carbon assessment, or similar roles
Strong understanding of carbon accounting methodologies (operational & embodied) and energy benchmarking tools (e.g., CRREM)
Experience with green building certification systems (LEED, BREEAM, etc.) and investment screening frameworks
Proficient in energy and carbon reporting standards, ideally within a real estate or industrial asset management context
Excellent stakeholder coordination, data management, and analytical skills
Knowledge of SEAM standards or equivalent internal ESG frameworks is a strong advantage
