JOB DESCRIPTION
The Director, Strategy & Sustainability will be responsible for the development, implementation, and continuous refinement of the university’s long-term strategic plan, ensuring the strategic plans position the university as a global leader in engineering and technology education in support of the Vice President. The Director will lead and steer sustainability initiatives to ensure they are strategically aligned with the university's mission, driving an integrated approach to campus development and educational delivery that advances inclusive and sustainable outcomes.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Strategic Planning and Long-Term Vision
- Steer and oversee the university’s long-term strategic plan implementation, in alignment with the university’s vision, mission, and values.
- Collaborate with academic and administrative leaders to define strategic priorities that ensure the university’s continued excellence in research, education, and societal impact.
- Provide insights and new perspectives in establishing the university’s direction in terms of global reach, innovation, academic reputation, and operational excellence.
- Develop a systematic approach for regularly reviewing and updating the strategic plan based on changing circumstances, emerging trends, and feedback from stakeholders to ensure ongoing relevance and effectiveness
Sustainability Strategy and Initiatives
- Lead and support the university’s various sustainability efforts, including the development and execution of policies and initiatives that promote environmental sustainability, social responsibility, and economic viability.
- Develop strategies to integrate sustainability principles into academic programs, research initiatives, and operational practices across campus.
- Collaborate with external stakeholders, including industry, government, and nonprofit organizations, to position the university as a leader in sustainability education, research, and practice.
- Develop and monitor appropriate performance measures to ensure the university’s sustainability efforts are aligned with global standards, regulations, and best practices, such as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Performance Metrics and Reporting
- Develop and structure the reporting of the university’s strategic and sustainability goals in order to clearly communicate to the Board, faculty, staff, students, and external partners.
- Implement a reporting system so that regular updates on the progress of strategic initiatives and sustainability outcomes are transparent and accountable parties are supported
- Support the Vice President in providing senior leadership oversight of reports, documents, and presentations for the Board and other stakeholders, ensuring that they are comprehensively informed and engaged in the university’s long-term planning and transformation activities.
QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE
- Recognised Bachelor's or Master's degree in relevant field
- More than 10 years of experience in relevant field
- Professional qualification and advanced degree would be an added advantage
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Excellent analytical abilities
