ROLE PURPOSE:
- The Mechanical Static & Piping Engineer is responsible for ensuring that all static mechanical equipment, packages, and piping systems designed for or on behalf of Mubadala Energy affiliates are safe, reliable, and compliant with company standards, regulatory requirements, and international codes.
Project assignments cover the full project lifecycle from conceptual engineering and FEED through detailed design, procurement, fabrication, commissioning, and operational support providing technical leadership, discipline oversight, and interface management across both static and piping disciplines.
- The Mechanical Static & Piping Engineer ensures relevant Basis of Design requirements are being met and that the design deliverables are clear, correct. This position provides descriptions adequate to support the purchase of equipment, materials and the fabrication of associated equipment.
- This position also provides engineering recommendations and support for existing operating assets, resolving operational issues and investigations, supporting asset integrity programs, and contributing to continuous improvement.
- Based in the KL office with travel as necessary to project design, fabrication, manufacturing center, and offshore locations.

- Ensure contractor compliance with the HSSE aspects of project engineering procedures for mechanical engineering.

Functional
- Implement local and international design codes and practices to comply with statutory & regulatory requirements.
- Implement company mechanical engineering related procedures and specifications in line with current industry codes and best practices.
- Preparation of design basis, philosophies and specifications related to static equipment, piping systems, and equipment packages.
- Incorporate lessons learned from operational issues into current and future designs of facilities.
- Support lifecycle design strategies, ensuring maintainability, reliability, and integrity.
- Drive fit-for-purpose mechanical and piping improvement initiatives across operating assets.
Engineering
- Develop and review mechanical static and piping design philosophies, specifications and drawings.
- Oversee and review the work of engineering consultants and vendors to ensure technical accuracy, compliance, and schedule adherence.
- Review and approve drawings, specification and technical documents for mechanical static and piping design related work.
- Responsible for the design, specification, selection, and services relating to mechanical static, mechanical piping and packaged equipment.
- Responsible for the technical interface with vendors and equipment suppliers including the review of design deliverables and integration of vendor information into the overall facility design.
- Maintain a complete record of technical deliverables and correspondence to support design decisions and equipment selection, documenting all key mechanical engineering calculations.
- Ensure design deliverables are free of clashes, omissions, and inconsistencies through effective discipline checks and inter-discipline coordination.
Project Execution
- Prepare scopes of work in relation to the static and piping mechanical engineering discipline and interfaces for company tenders, and review and evaluate technical submissions prior to award of contracts and purchase orders.
- Oversee mechanical works performed by consultants, contractors and suppliers to ensure timely completion and compliance with the technical specifications and contract or purchase order.
- Manage vendor engagements, including bid evaluations, document reviews, and participation in factory and site inspections including factory and site test procedures.
- Provide technical guidance to fabrication, installation, hook-up, commissioning, and start-up teams.
- Coordinate onshore and offshore execution activities to meet project milestones
General and Operations
- Participate in operations and project meetings, interface meetings and design reviews.
- Provide technical support, advice and guidance to operating and maintenance personnel on mechanical engineering aspects of facilities including risk assessments, failure investigations, asset integrity and equipment strategies.
- Build mechanical discipline knowledge by leveraging expertise through technical networks and consolidating technology issues into summary documents or technical note(s).
- Raise and discuss key or critical technical issues with the Engineering Manager to develop cost effective solutions, using best practices and current industry design criteria.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
Knowledge
- A Bachelors' degree in Mechanical Engineering is required. Professional Engineer, Chartered Engineer or equivalent is preferred.
- Familiar with the technical specification and application of mechanical static equipment and packages, within an offshore oil and gas facility, including the procurement, installation and commissioning requirements.
- Conversant with mechanical equipment design requirements using API, ANSI, ASME, NACE, NFPA, TEMA and other applicable codes and standards.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the full project cycle from concept development through to start-up.
Experience
- Minimum 10 years experience in oil and gas industry with related experience in design or maintenance of mechanical static and piping, including considerable practical experience in installation for offshore facilities.
- Experience of working as part of a multi discipline team for facilities engineering projects and/or offshore development projects.
