We are currently hiring a Senior Underwriting and Claims Consultant to join our Life & Health team based in Malaysian Branch.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess and make underwriting decisions on terms for cover for all new proposals that fall beneath the incumbent’s Underwriting Authority and ensure underwriting turnaround times and service levels are met. This involves reviewing medical, occupational, financial and legal information to analyse the risk involved.
- Implement and monitor underwriting and claims strategy, policy, guidelines and controls consistent with Group objectives and directives, and consistent with client group focus to set the Company strategy
- Responsible for assessing claim cases submitted by cedant companies that fall beneath the incumbent’s Claim Authority.
- Reviewing Underwriting Medical Tables, Policy contract conditions, Proposal forms, Underwriting / Claim Questionnaires, Underwriting guidelines and requirements to ensure sound risk management.
- Assist to arrange and coordinate the KL office underwriting seminar and also activities of the E&T team in the region to promote knowledge transfer from Hannover Re to ceding company.
- To promote collaboration with other departments within Hannover Re MalBr by sharing medical and product underwriting knowledge.
- Handling enquiries from cedant company underwriting / claim staff and respond to client’s requests for necessary underwriting information in order to develop and grow the business and exploit new business potentials through active development of relationships.
- Act as advocate for Hannover Life Re’s approach to underwriting. Regularly liaise with all underwriters in existing and potential client companies and build relationships on behalf on Hannover Life Re with these individuals.
- Conduct training and give presentations in client seminars and conduct regular visits to overseas cedant and clients.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor of Science / Bio Medical Science.
- At least 10 years’ experience in direct or reinsurance company as medical underwriter with existing underwriting authority up to +150% extra mortality and familiar with underwriting of standard benefits i.e Death, TPD, CI, ADD and Medical Plans.
- Technically competent to analyse the risk involved in terms of medical, occupational, financial, residential, avocational and legal aspects.
- Professional qualifications (such as FLMI, FALU, FLHC) preferred.
- Past experience with another reinsurer, experience in product development and/or knowledge of SEA markets will be an added advantage.
- Strong presentation and inter-personal skills.
- Good team player.
