We are seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented Finance Analyst to join our dynamic finance team within the supermarket retail industry. This role plays a critical part in supporting key finance projects and delivering accurate financial analysis to aid in decision-making, operational improvements, and business compliance.
Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Finance Analyst will assist with reconciliation efforts, audit planning, asset management, SOP development, and analytical reporting—providing valuable insights that support commercial and operational objectives.
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Analysis & Retail Insights
- Analyze key financial metrics such as sales performance, gross margins, inventory movement, cost variances, and promotional spending effectiveness to support strategic retail decisions.
- Monitor daily, weekly, and monthly retail performance indicators and prepare variance analysis against budgets, forecasts, and historical data.
- Support the finance team in preparing business reports for management, identifying cost-saving opportunities and trends within different retail segments and locations.
- Collaborate with operations, procurement, and merchandising departments to evaluate profitability, stock turnover, and pricing effectiveness.
2. Project Implementation & Support
- Assist the Finance Manager in implementing and tracking financial projects such as audits, SOP development, backlog reconciliation, and new finance system processes.
- Contribute to asset tagging initiatives across retail outlets and warehouses, ensuring proper documentation and policy compliance.
3. Backlog Reconciliation & Transaction Review
- Perform end-to-end reconciliation of supplier accounts and trade payables. Identify and resolve delayed or mismatched transactions efficiently.
- Determine root causes of accounting discrepancies and implement corrective actions.
4. Policy & SOP Development
- Participate in walkthroughs of current retail finance operations including POS systems, procurement, and inventory accounting flows.
- Develop and document Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to support training, standardization, and compliance across finance teams and retail branches.
5. Compliance & Governance
- Ensure full adherence to internal control policies, regulatory standards, and financial reporting guidelines applicable to retail business operations.
- Support audit exercises by preparing schedules, supplying supporting documents, and ensuring completeness and accuracy of financial records.
6. Cross-functional Collaboration
- Work closely with purchasing, warehousing, store operations, and merchandising teams to align financial activities with business processes.
- Assist with cash flow tracking, inventory audits, and capex analysis in relation to store expansions or renovations.
7. Ad-Hoc Financial Projects
- Provide financial input for new retail business initiatives, such as branch openings, pricing strategies, system migrations, or process automations.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related discipline.
- Professional certification (ACCA, CPA, MIA) is highly preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience, ideally in retail, supermarket, or FMCG industries.
- Strong foundation in financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and retail operational finance.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, lookups, charts) and proficiency in accounting or ERP systems (SAP, SQL, Oracle, etc.).
- High attention to detail, with the ability to identify trends, anomalies, and actionable insights in large datasets.
- Excellent communication skills in Bahasa Malaysia and English, with a professional approach to documentation and reporting.
- Proactive, self-driven, and able to work in a fast-paced, high-volume retail environment.

Pay: RM2,200.00 - RM4,500.00 per month
