Summary
The Field Service Engineer – Thermal Solutions is responsible for delivering expert technical support, on-site service, and maintenance for Vertiv’s thermal management systems, including precision cooling units, CRAC/CRAH systems, in-row cooling, and advanced liquid cooling technologies. This role encompasses installation, commissioning, diagnostics, preventive maintenance, and direct customer engagement to ensure optimal performance of mission-critical infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
Installation & Commissioning
- Execute installation, start-up, and commissioning of Vertiv thermal systems.
- Ensure seamless integration with power, IT, and facility infrastructure.
- Perform performance testing and validate system functionality against specifications.
Technical Support & Troubleshooting
- Identify and resolve mechanical, electrical, and control-related issues.
- Provide both remote and on-site technical troubleshooting.
- Use diagnostic tools and software to conduct root cause analysis.
Preventive & Corrective Maintenance
- Conduct scheduled inspections, cleaning, and servicing of cooling systems.
- Replace components, perform firmware upgrades, and calibrate controls.
- Ensure systems operate at peak efficiency and meet performance standards.
Emergency Response & On-Call Support
- Deliver rapid response to emergency service requests, 24/7 availability.
- Mitigate downtime and restore operations during critical failures.
Customer Training & Support
- Educate clients on operational best practices and maintenance procedures.
- Offer recommendations to enhance energy efficiency and optimize system performance.
Compliance & Documentation
- Adhere to all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain accurate service logs, reports, and maintenance documentation.
Continuous Improvement & Technical Development
- Provide feedback to engineering and R&D for product improvement.
- Stay current on emerging cooling technologies and energy-saving practices.
- Mentor junior engineers to strengthen team capabilities.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Diploma or bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, HVAC Technology, or a related technical field.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in thermal management, HVAC systems, or data center cooling, including work with CRAC/CRAH units, in-row cooling, and refrigerant-based systems.
- Solid understanding of thermal system design and operation.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
- Familiarity with cooling system controllers, PLCs, sensors, and diagnostic tools.
- Experience with refrigerant handling, leak detection, and system charging (EPA certification or equivalent preferred).
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, wiring schematics, and service manuals.
- Strong analytical thinking and independent problem-solving skills.
- Good communication and interpersonal abilities for customer-facing interactions.
- Team-oriented with a proactive attitude.
Other Requirements:
- Commitment to safety and compliance with regulatory standards.
- Ability to work in high-pressure, mission-critical environments such as data centers or telecom facilities.
- Willing and able to travel extensively—up to 100% travel expected.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree/Diploma in HVAC or Mechanical Engineering with a background in data center cooling.
- Experience with advanced cooling systems (liquid cooling, adiabatic, or free cooling).
- Familiarity with DCIM platforms and remote monitoring tools.
