About the Role
We are recruiting on behalf of our client for a skilled Electrical MSB (Main Switchboard) Designer & Specialist to join their engineering team in Shah Alam. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, specifying, and optimizing low voltage main switchboards (MSBs), ensuring compliance with relevant standards, safety requirements, and project specifications. You’ll work closely with consultants, clients, and switchboard manufacturers to ensure efficient, reliable, and scalable power distribution designs.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Engineering
- Develop MSB layouts, single-line diagrams (SLDs), load schedules, and control schematics.
- Select components such as ACBs, MCCBs, busbars, metering, surge protection, etc.
- Conduct short circuit, discrimination, and thermal studies using electrical design software (e.g., ETAP, Ecodial, or similar).
- Ensure designs comply with IEC, MS IEC, IEE, TNB, and local statutory standards.
Coordination
- Liaise with project managers, electrical consultants, contractors, and clients for design reviews and technical clarifications.
- Coordinate with switchboard fabricators/vendors to ensure constructability and timely delivery.
Documentation & Compliance
- Prepare technical submissions, compliance statements, BOMs, and testing protocols.
- Review vendor drawings and ensure proper implementation of specifications on site.
- Support FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing) and site installation verification.
Troubleshooting & Optimization
- Provide technical support for commissioning and troubleshooting of MSB-related issues.
- Recommend upgrades or redesigns for existing systems to improve performance or safety.
Requirements
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
Experience:
- Minimum 3–5 years of proven experience in MSB design and fabrication (low voltage, <1000V).
- Solid understanding of power distribution, protection systems, and switchgear components.
Skills:
- Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit (advantage), and electrical simulation software.
- Familiar with local utility requirements (e.g., TNB) and standards (IEC 61439, MS 1979).
- Strong technical writing and documentation skills.
- Good interpersonal and communication abilities.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Data Center or Industrial MSB applications.
- Familiarity with Arc Flash Analysis and energy efficiency considerations.
- Exposure to SCADA integration, IoT-enabled MSBs, or digital twin concepts.
