TEACHER (IGCSE)
JOB TITLE: Upper Secondary English Teacher (IGCSE)
REPORTS TO: Head of English Department
LOCATION: IMAS International School Kuala Lumpur
PURPOSE
The Upper Secondary English Teacher (IGCSE) plays a pivotal role in delivering
high-quality English instruction to students in Years 10 and 11, in preparation for
the Cambridge IGCSE English as a First or Second Language examinations. This
role demands a deep understanding of adolescent literacy development, effective
assessment strategies, and engaging, student-centered pedagogy.
The teacher will integrate IMAS’s Islamic values and bilingual approach while
fostering a love for literature, academic writing, and critical thinking in learners. As
part of the Secondary team, the teacher contributes to the academic rigor,
personal growth, and global readiness of IMAS graduates.
1. Curriculum Delivery and Instructional Excellence
- Deliver the Cambridge IGCSE English curriculum with a strong focus on
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including
- Integrate IMAS’s “7 Values” and Islamic worldview into literature
- Foster 21st-century skills including critical thinking, argumentation, and
- Design and administer formative and summative assessments aligned
- Maintain accurate records of student performance and use data to guide
- Prepare students thoroughly for IGCSE exams, including past paper
- Provide timely, constructive feedback to support student growth in writing
- Promote academic literacy through explicit instruction in vocabulary,
- Curate diverse, culturally responsive reading materials that include global
- Develop students’ abilities to write for various purposes and audiences,
- Encourage independent reading and foster appreciation for a range of
- Create a safe, respectful, and stimulating learning space that promotes
- Uphold high expectations for student conduct, engagement, and work
- Utilize classroom routines, student-led activities, and technology tools to
- Collaborate with the English department on curriculum planning,
- Participate in professional development workshops, school-wide initiatives,
