Purpose of the role: To oversee and coordinate all Geographic Information System (GIS) and drone-based mapping activities in the estate, ensuring accurate spatial data collection, infrastructure monitoring, and timely updates to support estate planning, operations, and decision-making.
Key Duties Responsibility and Accountability:
Field Data Collection & Mapping:
- Conduct GPS-based mapping of estate boundaries, plantation blocks, roads, drains, bridges, culverts, water gates, bunds, buildings, housing, mills, and other infrastructure.
- Perform palm tree census using drones and GPS tools, including tree counting, vacant point identification, and palm health monitoring.
- Update elevation profiles, water flow data, inlet/outlet points, and biodiversity locations (e.g., barn owl boxes).
Work Progress Tracking:
- Record location, quantity, and date (month/year) of completed estate works such as road repairs, drain cleaning, bridge maintenance, replanting, and pest control.
- Maintain records for both operational and infrastructure maintenance activities.
Data Management & Coordination:
- Coordinate with the GIS Executive for uploading and updating data into the GIS database.
- Ensure all collected data meets accuracy and quality standards.
- Generate basic maps and reports for operational planning and management review.
Drone & GPS Equipment Handling:
- Operate and maintain GNSS receiver devices and assist in drone survey operations when required.
- Ensure all equipment is properly calibrated, maintained, and used according to company SOPs.
Liaison & Communication:
- Work closely with estate management, agronomy, infrastructure, and environmental teams to ensure GIS data supports daily operations.
- Provide feedback from the field to improve mapping accuracy and operational efficiency.
Education and Experience:
· Minimum SPM / STPM or Diploma in Plantation Management, Surveying, Geomatics, GIS, Agriculture, or related fields.
· Candidates with relevant field experience in plantation operations may be considered without formal GIS education.
· At least 2 years of working experience in plantation operations, surveying, mapping, or GIS-related work.
Experience in GPS-based data collection, field mapping, or infrastructure monitoring preferred.
Skills & Knowledge:
- Basic understanding of GPS/GIS tools and mapping principles.
- Ability to read and interpret maps, layouts, and technical drawings.
- Basic knowledge of plantation infrastructure (roads, drains, bunds, etc.) and oil palm cultivation.
- Familiarity with drone survey operations (advantage but not mandatory).
- Good record-keeping and reporting skills.
- Physical fitness for fieldwork in varied terrain and weather conditions.
Other Requirement :
- Willingness to work in remote estate locations and travel within the estate.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in data collection.
