Job Summary
We are seeking a meticulous and experienced News Editor (Chinese Language) to
oversee the production of high-quality news content in Mandarin Chinese. The ideal
candidate is a native or fluent Mandarin speaker with a strong background in journalism,
excellent writing and editing skills, and a sharp news sense. You will be responsible for
editing news stories, coordinating with reporters, ensuring accuracy, and upholding editorial
standards.
Key Responsibilities
● Edit and proofread Chinese news articles for grammar, clarity, factual accuracy,
editorial style, and tone consistency.
● Oversee the editorial workflow for Mandarin Chinese content across platforms
(digital, social, and video), ensuring quality and timeliness.
● Work closely with reporters, contributors, and freelancers to improve story structure,
narrative flow, and overall impact.
● Provide editorial direction and story angles for Chinese-language interviews, feature
pieces, and in-depth reporting.
● Fact-check all submitted content and ensure information adheres to journalistic
integrity and local media regulations.
● Manage the Chinese Interview Planning System, including scheduling, planning, and
post-interview follow-ups.
● Coordinate with the video editing team to align video scripts, lower thirds, subtitles,
and visual storytelling with the written editorial tone and message.
● Lead and participate in editorial meetings to pitch, assign, and refine news angles
based on market trends and breaking developments.
● Supervise content repurposing across formats, including written summaries for video
interviews, headlines for social media.
● Mentor junior Chinese reporters or interns, provide feedback on copy drafts, and
uphold professional development across the editorial team.
● Ensure all content complies with internal editorial policies, copyright rules, and
applicable journalistic standards.
Nevertheless, but not limited to:
● Edit News Footage: Select, trim, and assemble raw video materials into polished
news packages that align with the editorial direction and storytelling goals.
● Ensure Editorial Accuracy: Collaborate with producers and reporters to fact-check
content, verify footage, and ensure the final edit reflects accurate and unbiased
reporting.
● Enhance Visual Storytelling: Add text overlays, graphics, subtitles, transitions, and
sound elements (e.g., voiceovers, background music, sound effects) to enhance
clarity and viewer engagement.
● Meet Tight Deadlines: Work efficiently in a fast-paced newsroom environment to
deliver edited video content for daily news cycles, breaking news, or live updates.
● Maintain Broadcast Standards: Ensure all video content meets technical
specifications and editorial standards for television and digital platforms, including
proper aspect ratios, audio levels, and color grading.
● Collaborate with News Teams: Coordinate with journalists, producers, camera
operators, and graphic designers to ensure cohesive visual and editorial output.
● Adapt Content for Multiple Platforms: Edit and format videos for various platforms
including TV, websites, social media, and mobile apps, optimizing length and format
for each channel.
● Archive and Manage Media Assets: Organize and manage digital files, maintain
video archives, and ensure proper labeling and storage for future use.
● Incorporate Real-Time Feedback: Quickly implement editorial or technical changes
from editors or producers during breaking news or live coverage situations.
● Stay Updated with Trends: Keep abreast of video editing trends, newsroom
technology, and digital storytelling techniques to enhance production value and
audience reach.
Requirements
● Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, Chinese Language, or related
field.
● Minimum 3–5 years of experience in a similar editorial or journalistic role.
● Native-level proficiency in written Chinese (Simplified or Traditional, depending on
market) and strong command of English.
● Excellent editing and writing skills, with strong attention to detail.
● Deep understanding of media law, journalistic ethics, and fact-checking techniques.
● Familiarity with AP or similar editorial style guides (especially if bilingual content is
required).
● Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
● Strong news judgment and awareness of current affairs, particularly in
Chinese-speaking regions.
● Experience with content management systems (CMS), newsroom tools, and digital
publishing is a plus.
Preferred Qualities
● Knowledge of Chinese Business, Financial and Capital Market context.
● Experience in multimedia content editing (video scripts, subtitles, voiceovers).
● Strong leadership and communication skills.
