Part 1: Job Purpose
The Application Database Administrator (App DBA) is responsible for ensuring the optimal performance, availability, and security of application databases. This includes applying critical and security patches, planning and executing housekeeping activities to prevent disruptions, and monitoring performance during peak periods such as month-end batch processing. The role also involves advising developers on query optimization, supporting disaster recovery efforts, addressing vulnerability findings, and assisting users with database-related issues in financial systems such as GL, AP, FA, and FAH.
Part 2: Key Responsibilities & Outcomes1. Database Performance Management
- Ensure application-related patches are applied.
- Optimize performance during batch cycles and meet SLAs.
- Conduct troubleshooting, testing, and performance tuning.
- Plan for capacity and space optimization.
Challenges: Understanding complex batch dependencies, managing testing scopes, aligning with user requirements.
2. Issue Resolution & Support
- Collaborate with Infrastructure and Security teams on vulnerability findings.
- Support disaster recovery drills and provide updates.
- Provide L2/L3 support on database-related issues.
3. Team Collaboration & Knowledge Sharing
- Work closely with developers and operational teams to maintain database stability.
- Regularly share updates and knowledge with team members.
Challenge: Clear articulation and documentation for backup and continuity.
4. Team Development & Coaching
- Encourage continuous teamwork.
- Provide coaching and training to junior staff with measurable improvements.
5. Quality Assurance
- Deliver consistent, high-quality work with minimal bugs.
- Ensure performance consistency under high-demand scenarios.
6. Delivery & Operations
- Formulate tactical plans for resolving complex issues.
- Lead small to mid-sized initiatives with effective team engagement.
Part 3: QualificationsEducation
- Bachelor's degree with experience in Oracle Enterprise Business Suite and Oracle SQL.
Experience
- Minimum 5 years' experience in:
- Oracle EBS Databases (12c, 19c+)
- Oracle SQL or equivalent
- Shell Scripting
Certifications (Optional)
- Oracle Certification is preferred but not mandatory.
