Job Description
About the role
As a Senior Software Engineer (Android Platform) at SEEK, you'll join our Core Apps team - a cross-functional distributed agile team spanning Australia, Hong Kong, and Malaysia. We maintain the core architecture, infrastructure, and operational practices that enable our teams to deliver high-quality mobile experiences for SEEK, Jobsdb, and Jobstreet apps.
You'll work in a fast-paced, supportive environment tackling complex challenges that directly impact people's lives. Your focus will be evolving our Android platform infrastructure alongside application codebase and supporting tooling, including CI/CD build pipelines, observability tools, and performance optimisation. You'll drive technical platform alignment, deliver reliable and scalable solutions, and mentor engineers on platform development best practices.
Our team combines Android/iOS engineers, platform engineers, product managers, designers, and specialists driven by passion for customers, high-quality engineering, and delivering rapid value to candidates and hirers.
Responsibilities
- Lead development of scalable platform infrastructure for Android development including build pipeline optimisation and automated testing.
- Optimise, troubleshoot, and enhance the Android application codebase for performance, reliability, and maintainability.
- Implement observability frameworks by integrating monitoring solutions and configuring performance profiling tools.
- Implement cloud service integrations and manage infrastructure automation.
- Optimise build systems, dependency management, and artifact distribution.
- Troubleshoot and resolve platform incidents, providing operational support including on-call duties if required.
- Coach and mentor engineers on platform practices and improve team engineering capabilities.
- Contribute to communities of practice at SEEK while creating inclusive environments for feedback and different perspectives.
Qualifications
Essential Skills and experience
- Strong native Android development experience with infrastructure focus or demonstrated interest in platform engineering.
- Experience with CI/CD tooling optimization, build system internals, and deployment automation.
- Proficiency with Gradle build system, optimisation, and multi-module project configuration.
- Understanding of Android toolchain, SDK management, and build environment standardization.
- Experience operating and maintaining CI/CD platforms with infrastructure monitoring.
- Proficiency in implementing observability solutions including logging, metrics, performance monitoring, and crash reporting.
- Knowledge of AWS or similar cloud services for mobile development workflows.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with deployment and operations teams.
